Simple Tips For Using Your Gmail Inbox

Many of us have been using Gmail for years. While the free email service is fairly easy to use and extremely popular with the masses, for some it can be a bit overwhelming at times. Are you noticing a number of unread messages that are counted in the hundreds? Is your Gmail inbox flooded with unnecessary emails? Many users don’t know is that Gmail has a lot of cool features. That goes beyond the basics and can make your inbox smoother and better. Here, we’ve shared some quick and helpful tips for the Gmail inbox. That you could start taking advantage of right away.

  1. Choose The Style of Your Inbox

Choose the style of your inbox
Gmail allows you to organize your inbox in a way that will make it easy for you to manage. For example, you can customize what you put into your inbox with a simple click. Hover over the word and click the downward triangle to open the menu. There, you will find many options: “Received”, “Unread”, “Featured”, “Important”. Of all these options, Featured is one of the most useful, as it combines Important and Unread aspects and tries to put the most important messages in front of you. Therefore, it would be wise to choose this option. Also, when you choose any of the above options, Gmail keeps the top of the inbox for the type of message you have chosen. If you’re in a hurry, for example, you can look at the “Important” folder where Gmail would have stored the most useful emails for you.  Over time, you will find that Gmail improves and filters your messages much better once you use these options on a regular basis.

  2. Get A View and Reply To An Email Without Opening It Using The “Preview Pane”

Get a view and reply to an email without opening it using the "Preview Pane"

When you click on an email, you are taken to the message, but then you can’t see any of the other messages in your inbox. The “Preview Pane” feature comes in handy. This built-in option makes it easy for you to read messages by splitting the screen in two so that you can read emails on one half and search for messages on the other. This feature of the preview pane is not only useful, but it is also quite easy to use. You can place the preview panel on the right side of your emails or place the panel just below the message. To activate the Preview Pane option in Gmail, click the “Settings” button in the upper right. Then scroll down to “Preview Pane”. You will find 2 options To the right of the inbox or “Below the inbox”. Try both options once and see which one is more comfortable for your eyes. Select the best one and you’re done. With the preview panel, you can receive all the information in your inbox much more comfortably and even reply without opening the emails.

  3. Use Smart Writing

    Use Smart Writing
Smart compose is a cool new feature that Gmail has introduced so you can write emails faster. This new feature suggests complete sentences in your emails so you can compose them with ease. Furthermore, it also helps you with common phrases while composing an email. The great thing about smart writing is that it works in the background. So you can write emails as you normally do and this feature will help you with suggestions as you write. From the number of suggestions they offer, you can choose the one you like the most at the bottom of an email and hit send.

Once you start using it regularly, you will notice that with the help of smart writing you will be saving time in your emails by reducing repetitive writing and also reducing spelling and grammar errors. Smart compose is particularly useful for sending short email responses, and your auto-generated responses can work wonderfully well. To enable this feature, click “Settings” and then select “View all settings.” There, under “General,” scroll down to “Smart Compose” and select “Typing Suggestions On.” That’s it! You will be ready to go.
